The Paparmane Experience

Afternoon tea at Paparmane takes the classic elegance of tiered platters and loose-leaf teas and infuses it with a playful, modern twist. We honor the ritual but replace the stuffiness with vibrant flavors, colorful aesthetics, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

If you are wondering where to have afternoon tea in Montreal, Paparmane is primarily a sit-down Old Montreal tea room where you can enjoy a full culinary experience. However, we also operate a tea shop/boutique at the front where you can purchase our blends to brew at home.

While a classic Old Montreal tea room might lean heavily into quiet, formal tradition, Paparmane offers a more vibrant, whimsical, and relaxed environment. We respect the culinary art of high tea but believe it should feel celebratory and fun rather than rigid.

We are proud sister establishments! While Régine and Janine are Montreal’s beloved destinations for decadent, comforting brunch, Paparmane is the newest member of the family, bringing that same signature hospitality and culinary excellence to the world of afternoon tea.

Yes! We love to celebrate the seasons by rotating our pastry selections, savory bites, and featured tea blends. We also completely transform our decor to offer a different, immersive tea room experience every time! We feature 6 distinct themes throughout the year:

  • Month of Love: February.
  • Sugar Shack: March–April.
  • Spring Awakening: April–May.
  • Summer Breeze: July–August, featuring a beautiful flower garden decor.
  • Autumn Flavors: September–October, where the room transforms into a haunted tea room for Halloween week.
  • Winter Delights: November–January, offering a magical and luminous universe for the festive holidays.

Expect a warm welcome, eclectic and beautiful decor, and a guided journey through our tea and culinary offerings. Our staff will walk you through the menu and help you select the perfect tea to match your palate.

Unlike hushed, traditional parlors, Paparmane has a lively, conversational, and joyous atmosphere. It’s a place for laughter and good company.

Definitely! Whether you are treating yourself to a solo afternoon of indulgence or looking for a romantic, unique date spot, our atmosphere is perfect for both.

Menu & Dietary Needs

The Paparmane experience is exclusively for the full afternoon tea service. We do not serve drinks à la carte without the tiered platter experience.

No, our tiered platters are strictly designed for one person. Each guest receives their own complete afternoon tea experience.

Yes, in addition to our extensive tea list, we offer a menu of cocktails, wines, beers, and bubbly to add to the celebration!

Because each platter is prepared by hand with diverse ingredients, there is an inherent risk of cross-contamination. Our bites contain eggs, soy, nuts, sesame, alliums, spices, and sulfites. While we take precautions, we cannot guarantee a 100% allergen-free environment. You must inform us of any allergies before your visit so we can provide the necessary information for your safety.

Reservations, Groups & Families

We highly recommend booking at least a few weeks in advance, especially for weekends. Tables are reserved for 2 hours, and we allocate about 1.5 to 1.75 hours for your experience.

Paparmane is the perfect backdrop for celebrations! We regularly host baby showers, bachelorette parties, birthdays, and office outings. For groups of 6 to 12 people, please email us directly.

During regular service, we accept groups of up to 12 people. However, for larger events, Paparmane can be fully privatized for groups of 30 to 50 guests during our 5:30 PM service.

Outside cakes are not permitted. However, if you let us know about your celebration when booking, our pastry team will prepare a special sweet surprise for the guest of honor! Due to our intimate space and full tables, we cannot accommodate gift tables or large flower bouquets (though a small balloon bouquet on the table is fine).

Absolutely. We gladly welcome families and offer a special “Petits trésors” menu for children 12 and under ($25). Note: To preserve the calm atmosphere and unique vibe of our space, we do not host children’s birthday parties or organized groups for kids’ events.

As our tea room is an intimate space with limited capacity, we always do our best to comfortably accommodate strollers, baby shells (coquilles), and young children. We also have a changing table available in the washroom. Please let us know you are bringing a child (and their age) when booking so we can prepare accordingly!

Boutique, Takeout & Gift Cards

We certainly do. Our tea boutique features a curated selection of our favorite loose-leaf teas, beautifully packaged for you to take home or give as a gift.

Yes, you can bring the Paparmane experience home! Our signature homemade jams are available for purchase in our boutique area.

We do. Through our Take out menu, you can order a beautifully packaged Classic, Vegetarian, or Vegan afternoon tea box ($55.00 each) to go. Orders must be placed 48 hours in advance. Please note: We cannot process allergy requests or dietary exceptions for takeout boxes.

Yes, Paparmane gift certificates are available both on-site and online. Our online gift cards are sent instantly via email, which means there are no issuance or delivery delays. They make a wonderful gift for anyone looking to enjoy a unique Montreal dining experience.

Getting Here & Practical Info

Parking in Old Montreal can be tricky depending on the time of your visit, but several paid lots (indoor and outdoor) are nearby. We are a short walking distance from the Place d’Armes and Square Victoria metro stations.

Unfortunately, we are located in a historic heritage building that is not wheelchair accessible. In addition to a few steps at the entrance, please note that our washrooms are located in the basement of the establishment.

Yes, our entire team is fully bilingual and happy to serve you in the language of your choice.

While there is no mandatory dress code and everyone is welcome, we recommend a “smart casual” (chic décontracté) attire for a touch of elegance and comfort.

Per food safety and public hygiene laws, animals are not permitted inside where food is prepared and served, with the strict exception of certified service animals (e.g., guide dogs).

To preserve the magic of the tea room and encourage a true moment of escape, we do not allow laptops during service.
